Well we are 2 weeks out all is in place that we can do and it is up the Mother nature to see what she is going to bring us. Being in the head waters of this valley we have a 50/50 shot of having ideal water conditions. At this point we still have some snow on the mountains just have to wait and see what happens. In an effort to curb our cost a bit i did not order as many shirts this year. If that is important to you I would suggest to preregister in order to get the correct size. I will have many shirts from previous years at registration for sale 2 for $5.00. To everyone parking will be limited at the start area. I would strongly suggest to use the shuttle bus. I am only running one bus so please only one person to run the shuttle vehicle. Again I will update more often as the event draws closer. I will be monitoring the water level as everyone else, Hope for the best but expect most anything it is the classic !! any questions please let me know See everyone Saturday April 1 Randy
Just to let everyone know things are falling into place nicely. we are 3 weeks out. With this pending cold weather and predicted snow in the forecast I am hopeful for our water level for this years classic. We will have Breakfast and registration at the Emporium Country club from 7 am till 10:30 am ALL participants must come to the Club to get event number and sign waivers. My suggestion would be to come early drop your gear at the start line grab a bite to eat register and be sure to catch the shuttle bus at the finish line provided by Student Transportation of America Thank them very much for that. THE SHUTTLE WILL LEAVE DRIFTWOOD AT 10:40 SHARP.
We will also have complementary hot chocolate, coffee at the start line provided by the Emporium Rotary Club Very appreciative for there efforts Thank you. I have been informed that Straub beer will be on hand at the finish line with samples of there finest. Along with that the SVFD will also be there with hot foods and drinks. After the days activities the EVFD will provide a pasta dinner as we give out awards and a few prizes back in Emporium. As the Event draws closer I will update with more details. again any questions or concerns just let me know. Randy
Hello everyone Welcome to the 2017 edition Of Cameron County’s Canoe and Kayak Classic. I am a bit behind getting everything together. We were having some issues with our web blog. I need to thank Chris Luckenbill for helping me get it figured out and also many other issues over the past 15 or so years. Has it been that long ? At this point I do not have a whole lot of changes to report. If you have been with us in the past you know the Gig. I need to still confirm that all will be in place the same as last year.
We will not have available to us this year an alternate venue as the Lake at Sinn State Park is undergoing a dredging project. If we find ourselves in an extreme situation (No water to paddle downstream) I may just set up a small loop course at the start area. practice your buoy turns!!. And the other extreme, Flood stage we may opt to the following weekend. Lets be hopeful for a nice day and good water level.
I have paddled the course and for once I have no major issues to address in the river there are a few branches that I need to cut but for the most part the river is open. I will update on a regular basis now up to the event date with particulars. Please don’t hesitate to call if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing everyone back and new faces as well come April 1. Randy
